External accessories are fitted to reduce heat from the sun. Awning blinds and roller shutters reflect the sun, protecting the interior from excessive and uncomfortable heat gain.

Our external accessories do not reduce the glazing surface area of the window. The wide range of accessories increases the functionality of the window, and offers the means to control levels of light, as well as saving heat and energy.

Which of the accessories gives the best protection from overheating?

According to the DIN 5034-1 norm rooms should be protected from overheating with the use of external accessories which give better protection than internal accessories:

How does it work in reality?

FAKRO has compared the protection different accessories offer against overheating. Eight identical investigation boxes were fitted with the same type of roof windows and exposed to the sun’s rays. The windows were shut and the temperature was taken one metre above the floor at several different places. The windows then had accessories installed. The results are shown in this diagram.
