FAQ

General

This is a myth. In most cases, burglars enter buildings through windows that are small and easy to pry open. Large windows are difficult to pry open. Additionally, using the appropriate glazing, safety packages (fittings, key-lock handles, anti-burglary glass) and other security features (anti-prying mushroom locks) makes it much harder to get into a house through them.

FAKRO's offer features cutting-edge fittings system, making all INNOVIEW windows manufactured in the RC1 security class. This solution guarantees increased operational safety and burglary resistance. It is also possible to produce windows equipped with more anti-burglary features in RC2 class.

Anti-prying mushrooms located at each corner prevent attempts to pry the sash open. Additionally, the fittings can be upgraded, further enhancing burglary resistance.

It's not a good idea to air out your apartment during the hottest hours. Opening windows in high temperatures will let in hot air, which will significantly increase the room temperature. If your apartment is exposed to intense sunlight during hot weather, you should close the windows and cover them with blinds or dark curtains. External awning blinds are ideal for this purpose. The most beneficial solution is to open the windows and ventilate the house in the morning or late evening, when the outside air is coolest.

Best time to replace windows is between spring and late autumn. Tye replacement process can also be a part of a broader thermal modernisation, which also includes insulating the house from the outside. Windows have absolute priority in this situation.

Yes. The windows feature a complex sealing system. The incorporated technical solutions ensure that water does not penetrate the interior during rainfall and that there is no direct contact with the wooden structure.

It is a myth that larger glazed surfaces let in more noise and unwanted sounds – it all depends on the Rw rating (noise reduction) of the windows you choose.

They are not difficult, and what's more, a solution increasingly popular in large windows is "self-cleaning" glass with a special coating that breaks down organic dirt on its surface using UV rays. Furthermore, these windows feature hydrophilic properties, allowing dirt to drain away from the glass during rain without leaving streaks or stains. However, windows still need to be washed, albeit much less frequently.

Yes, if they meet the appropriate conditions. Details can be found on the FAKRO website.

The warranty for façade joinery is up to 15 years. For details, see the warranty card available on the FAKRO website.

Passive windows have a lower heat transfer coefficient. It is assumed that energy-saving windows have a coefficient of no more than 0.9 W/m2K, and the Uw of windows meeting passive building standards cannot exceed 0.8 W/m2K.

Recommended ventilation is as frequent, as short, and as strong as possible (in the draft).

External aluminum cladding should be washed regularly using a mild detergent. Wooden surfaces should be washed twice a year (in spring and autumn). We recommend using the Sikkens Wood Coatings maintenance kit.

Fittings should be regularly maintained and inspected.

Seals should be lubricated with technical vaseline twice a year, washed regularly with warm water and dishwashing liquid, and reinserted into the correct position if they have moved out of the mounting slot.

Details on care, maintenance, and protection of vertical joinery products are available in the instructions and product data sheets.

Wooden or wooden-aluminium windows should be installed after the completion of all wet works, i.e. screeds, plastering. It is due to the high humidity level caused by such works in rooms. Ideally, you should finish plasters at 2 - 3 cm from jamb corners and install windows after plasters dry up. If you decide to install windows before wet works, hence having frequent shock ventilation of the building, you run a risk of damaging the structure and losing your guarantee.

Modern trends include minimalist design, very large glazing and profiles with a low heat transfer coefficient, as well as joinery that, with its quality of finish, is part of the interior design.

They provide excellent thermal insulation and sound-absorbing properties that reduce outside noise. Windows offer exceptional design and aesthetics, and include features such as intelligent, automatic control and security systems.

Window systems

PVC windows are cheaper than wooden and aluminum ones. PVC windows are very popular, but they have size limitations. The maximum possible height of a large-sized PVC window is 2500 mm.

PVC windows are durable and have good thermal insulation. Wooden windows are characterized by a natural appearance and good insulation but require regular maintenance. Aluminum windows are lightweight and durable but have poorer thermal insulation. Wooden-aluminum windows feature high thermal and acoustic insulation properties, very high durability, and resistance to weather conditions.

Wooden-aluminum windows only require periodic refreshing with a soft cloth dampened with a mild cleaning agent, unlike wooden windows which, depending on the degree of exposure, may require renovation of the paint coating after several years of use.

No, FAKRO offers façade joinery in the following systems: wood-aluminium or wood-wood.

Technology

Unfortunately, HST windows do not have a tilt function, which is useful for ventilating a house. However, PSK tilt and slide terrace windows provide an alternative, which do offer this functionality.

The summer-winter mode involves changing the window sash tilt angle. The Siegenia winter-summer brace allows you to adjust the amount of air let inside to suit weather conditions. An extremely convenient feature is that you can eliminate drafts and reduce energy costs with a single hand movement.

It is possible, but the key is to order windows with a double-sided handle.

Yes, we usually suggest a vertical axis opening scheme, but we can make an asymmetric division, individually at the Customer's request.

Structural mullion bars are profiles that divide the window pane into smaller sections, known as quarters. In the case of Viennese mullion bars (glued-on), a single glazing unit is divided into a "duplex" section, imitating the division into smaller panes of glass. The division system can be configured in various ways as its function is purely aesthetic. They are ideal for historic houses and townhouses, manor houses, country cottages, and houses in classical, English, French, Scandinavian, and industrial styles.

This is the only comfortable solution. For example, when the small room size does not allow for the installation of a large tilt and turn window, but it is desirable to provide as much natural light as possible. Unlike turn-type windows, sliding windows guarantee additional usable space inside the room. Such structures are used in kitchens or attics.

Yes. Despite their size, they are extremely comfortable to use, and their sashes can also be electrically operated.

Available upon individual customer request. Recommended usage schemes are A, C and K.

No. All products in the FAKRO offer open to the inside or slide relative to the non-opening part.

No. An alternative to this solution are HST lift and slide doors and PSK tilt and slide doors.

No silicone or other sealing agent was used in the construction – all joints are secured by appropriate seals.

The glazing unit is mounted directly in the window frame and the window has no opening function.

The SOFTCLOSE mechanism gently slows the sash in the final closing phase, then gently presses it back into the frame. This system minimises the risk of injury due to improper handling and prevents potential material damage.

Please note! The SOFTCLOSE system does not lock the structure, so after it has finished working, the handle must be turned to close and seal the sliding door.

No. The sliding window structure must have a threshold to ensure proper and long-lasting operation. The threshold itself does not obstruct access to the terrace as once installed, the only element protruding above the threshold surface is the 5 mm-high rail.

FAKRO offers trapezoidal, triangular, arched, round, and non-standard windows, such as those in the shape of a polygon or rhombus. However, shapes of this type generally have certain limitations. To produce this type of construction, we recommend contacting a Technical Advisor or an authorised FAKRO Innoview vertical joinery distributor.

For HST doors the maximum dimension is: 12000x2800 mm, while for PSK doors it is 8000x2500 mm.

In FAKRO Innoview windows, corner connections using a corner post as well as post-free connections are allowed.

In the case of combining FAKRO Innoview vertical joinery with FAKRO roof windows, the glazing opening in vertical windows is smaller in relation to the glazing opening in roof windows and depends on the type of structures being connected.

For example:

  • FTP-V roof window + SOFT 78 FIX vertical window – the difference is 44 mm
  • FTP-V roof window + SOFT 78 RU vertical window – the difference is 110 mm

This is due to the combination installation technology.

Glazing unit

Glazing units (insulating glass) are a double- or triple-glazed units separated by a spacer and filled with noble gases. The lower the U-value of the glazing unit, the better its insulation performance.

The key to large-sized glazing is the appropriate selection of the glazing unit and its parameters. In the case of low-emission glazing units with a low Ug coefficient, a large portion of thermal energy is retained outside, thus protecting interior spaces from overheating. Additionally, selective glazing units can be used which, depending on the operating conditions, protect against heating or retain heat inside the room, limiting its cooling.

Yes, it is possible. In this case, the service of the manufacturer or the installation company is recommended.

  • The g (solar factor) parameter is the percentage of energy that penetrates into the room in relation to the total solar energy falling on a given partition.
  • The Lt (light transmittance coefficient) parameter is the ratio of the light flux that passes through or is reflected by the glass to the light flux incident on the glass.
  • The Ug (thermal transmittance) is the amount of heat lost through 1 square metre of glass when the difference between the external and internal environment is 1˚C. The lower the Ug value of the glass, the better it protects against heat loss.
  • The Ra (colour rendering) parameter is a colour rendering index that characterises a light source.

Yes. They are glazed surfaces that change their opaque form to transparent under the influence of an electric current. Regardless of the changes in transparency, they are characterized by high light transmittance.
