A NEW DIMENSION OF LIGHT IN FLAT ROOFS

A NEW DIMENSION OF LIGHT IN FLAT ROOFS

Natural light is one of the key factors shaping the quality of our everyday lives. The right amount of it affects our well-being, improves mood, and supports creativity. That is why, in spaces where we spend a significant part of the day, it is worth ensuring optimal daylighting.

In the case of buildings with flat roofs, windows designed specifically for this type of roof are an excellent solution. Such products were chosen for one of the single-family homes in Denmark. The selected FAKRO models effectively provided optimal interior lighting and, as a result, ensured full comfort for the household members.

FLAT ROOF WINDOWS D_G

FAKRO offers several models of flat roof windows. In this project, two D_G-type windows were used. Windows in this category are covered from above with a special glass segment featuring a tempered pane; because it is factory-fitted to the window, it significantly reduces installation time.

One of the installed windows is the fixed (non-opening) DXG P2 model, size 100 × 150. Its purpose is to bring natural light into the interior, where it spreads evenly throughout the room. The second window is the DEG P2 Z-Wave, size 120 × 220. This is an electrically operated opening model, controlled by a wall switch or a remote. An actuator mounted in the sash enables smooth opening and closing; the window can be tilted open up to 12 cm. Thanks to this, in addition to its primary function of illuminating the room, the window also serves for ventilation.

Furthermore, the DEG window is equipped with a rain sensor that automatically closes it in the event of rainfall. This increases the level of safety and comfort for residents, completely eliminating the potential risk of water entering the rooms.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND SAFETY

FAKRO flat roof windows are made from multi-chamber PVC profiles filled with thermal insulation material. The Uw heat transfer coefficient for the entire window is 0.92 W/m²K, which helps reduce heat loss and leads to lower heating costs. These windows are also safe for everyday use. The P2 glazing unit used in the DXG and DEG Z-Wave windows includes an internal laminated pane in class P2A. It ensures safety and protects against glass splinters in the event of damage.

DAYLIGHTING THE INTERIOR

A flat roof window is an interesting architectural feature of this home. It fits perfectly into the open living area, where natural light entering from above illuminates the entire space. During the day it opens the home to the blue sky; at night it becomes a vantage point for viewing the starry sky.

Installing such a window in the hallway also proved to be an excellent solution. Due to its location, this space often lacks access to natural light, which usually requires artificial lighting. A flat roof window effectively removes that need during the day, bringing out the charm of the space - it became bright and welcoming. At the same time, it translated into a practical benefit in the form of savings on electricity bills.

Choosing FAKRO flat roof windows delivered tangible benefits in the day-to-day functioning of this Danish home. These products became an invaluable distributor of light in the building, turning the interior into a bright and cozy space where you want to spend time.
