Modern, Light-Filled Residences in the Municipality of Großweil, Germany

Modern, Light-Filled Residences in the Municipality of Großweil, Germany

In the municipality of Großweil near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, six exceptional residences have been built - instantly eye-catching thanks to their wooden façades and contemporary architectural form. Beyond the striking visual appeal, the project was designed with residents’ comfort in mind. One of its key objectives was to maximize natural light on every floor. For this reason, the apartments and offices located directly under the roof were fitted with FAKRO roof windows.

Durability and Functionality

The installed roof windows are combinations of PTP U3 units in the 55 cm x 118 cm size, arranged on both sides of the ridge in four- or five-window sets. This configuration creates a cohesive, almost symmetrical composition that integrates seamlessly with the roof surface.

The PTP U3 window features a pivot design with a hinge positioned halfway up the frame. The sash can also rotate 180° and be locked with a bolt, allowing for convenient and safe cleaning of the outer pane. Made from multi-chamber PVC profiles, it stands out for its durability and resistance to corrosion. This type of window performs well in rooms with increased humidity and in hard-to-reach areas - such as in this project, where the windows were installed high near the ridge.

Details That Define Quality

The white aluminium-plastic windows stand out for both their clean, aesthetic finish and their practical functionality. They are easy to maintain, and servicing is limited to the bare minimum. Safety and long-term reliability are ensured by a toughened outer pane with a lifetime hail warranty.

Due to the advanced air-exchange system used in the buildings, the standard adjustable ventilation in the roof windows was intentionally omitted.

For proper installation, sealing flashings were used. Flashings ensure a long-lasting, watertight connection between the window and the roofing material. Their primary role is to effectively channel rainwater and snow away from the window while protecting the structure from wind.

Light in the Attic Space

The placement of FAKRO roof windows in the residences allowed the designers to achieve the intended effect: interiors filled with abundant, natural daylight. The interplay of light enhances the modern character of the entire development. By bringing light in from above, the attic rooms feel visually larger and more open. This thoughtfully designed space combines practicality with aesthetics - providing everyday comfort for residents while adding a sense of lightness and elegance to the architecture.
