A modernization project was carried out at the DEKRA branch in Vechta, Germany, where old roof windows were replaced with new ones. The investment aimed to improve energy efficiency and increase employee comfort. As a result, 17 roof windows were exchanged for new FAKRO models.
The building was fitted with PTP-V U3 aluminium-plastic roof windows. These are pivot windows with a hinge located halfway up the frame. The sash can be rotated 180° and locked with a bolt—making the cleaning of the outer pane both convenient and safe.
The windows are made of multi-chamber PVC profiles, a material that is durable, corrosion-resistant, does not absorb moisture, and requires no painting. This makes it an excellent choice for a workplace environment.
The building required windows in non-standard sizes, enabling a 1:1 replacement process. In the office areas, fourteen windows sized 115 cm × 137 cm were replaced, while in the corridor three units sized 67 cm × 119 cm were installed.
Some of the windows were combined into assemblies to increase glazing area and improve interior daylighting. All windows were equipped with ventilators providing adjustable ventilation.
A necessary component ensuring correct installation of a roof window is the flashing, whose purpose is to create a durable, tight connection between the window and the roofing, direct rain and snow away, and protect the window from wind. In this project, EHU-A flashings were used. These are ideal for replacing other manufacturers’ windows with FAKRO models. Their adjustability makes it possible to adapt the flashing to the installation depth dictated by the existing interior finish.

Roof window replacement can be carried out in three ways:
The choice depends on the condition of the existing linings, insulation requirements, and whether the window size is being changed.
In this project, the internal linings remained untouched because they were in good condition, and the new windows matched the original dimensions. As a result, the entire process was completed efficiently—17 windows were replaced in just three days. This significantly shortened the project timeline and reduced renovation costs.
The building was also fitted with ARF internal blinds in a beige shade, adding a decorative element to the offices located under the roof. Made from blackout fabric, they limit the amount of light entering through the roof windows, creating a pleasant atmosphere that supports focus.
Side guides allow the blinds to be positioned at any height, enabling precise control of daylight according to users’ needs. This solution significantly improved workplace comfort and enhanced overall space usability.
The replacement of roof windows at DEKRA’s branch with FAKRO products is an investment that will bring long-term benefits. The applied solutions noticeably increased the building’s energy efficiency. The new windows also refreshed interior aesthetics by providing more natural light and giving the spaces a modern look. Equally important, the modernization directly improved working conditions by enhancing daylight access, boosting energy performance, and enabling optimal light management.
